When is the last time you went for a run? If it’s been a while, now is the time to get moving again, and what better way than training for a 5k race! Gather the family and your running shoes, because we’ve found four Houston 5K races that are both fun and giving back to the community this summer:
- Shaggy Dog Rescue Fest and 5K
Saturday, April 8
This isn’t a just a regular 5K! This race benefits the Houston Shaggy Dog Rescue and offers a 5K run and one-mile Pup Fun Run. After the races, the festival offers dog vendor booths, local craft beer, and activities for you and your pets.
- Women Build 5K Run/Walk
Saturday, April 1
The Bay Area Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project encourages women to becomes advocates for Habitat. This is one of the project’s fundraisers, and the entire community is invited.
- Run for the Rose
Sunday, April 2
Run for the Rose benefits brain cancer research and pediatric health initiatives in the Houston area. In its 15th year, the run remains an activity that brings together both those in the medical community and its patients.
- Rodeo Run with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Saturday, March 4
Proceeds from the Rodeo Run benefit the Rodeo’s education fund and is one of Houston’s largest 5K races, with over 10,000 runners in the 2016 race. After the race, head to Eleanor Tinsley Park for more fun!
